Conservative Political Action Committee attendees in Orlando, Fla. said they would vote for Donald Trump’s reelection as president, in 2024.
A total of 2574 CPAC attendees reportedly participated in the survey, which was conducted using an official CPAC App installed on their
mobile devices. According to organizers, each CPAC attendee was assigned a unique, eight-digit PIN code required to complete the survey, along with their surname. CPAC said that ensured only CPAC registrants could participate in the survey. It may have skewed results, also, if people knew their responses could be traced back to them.
One of the questions asked in the survey administered by McLaughlin & Associates was whom they would vote for in the 2024 presidential primary. When former President Donald Trump was in the field, he received 59 percent of votes. Governor Ron DeSantis (R-Fla.) was a distant second, receiving 28 percent of votes cast. Mike Pompeo garnered 2 percent of voters.
Seven prominent Republicans received one percent of the votes. The field included names like former Vice-President Mike Pence, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.), Governor Kristi Noem (R – S.D.),Senator Ted Cruz (R – Texas), and former governor and ambassador Nikki Haley.
If the former president decides not to run for reelection in 2024 (or is prevented from doing so by a felony conviction), Gov. DeSantis is the clear favorite of party members canvassed. His support rose to 61 percent without Trump in the running. Pompeo and Donald Trump, Jr. each received 6 percent of votes cast. Cruz, Paul and Noem tied for third with three percent of voters supporting them.
Other interesting results of the survey include the expectation that the Republican nominee will likely face off against a former First Lady. Hillary Clinton is expected to be the Democrat nominee again by 22 percent of CPAC voters while 17 percent of them consider Michelle Obama the more likely opponent. President Joe Biden is expected to top the 2024 ticket by only 14 percent of the conservative voters. Kamala Harris was tagged by 11 percent to be the Democrat nominee.
When asked what they consider the greatest problem facing the United States right now, an overwhelming majority said it was illegal immigration across the Southern border. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine came in a distant second, garnering only 16 percent of the votes.
