A former Marine who became the first female and first Black person elected to Virginia state office explained Democrats hate people like her.
Virginia Lt. Gov. Winsome Sears declared Democrats hate Black conservatives like her during an interview with New York Post columnist Cal Thomas.
“In order for [Democrats] to continue to win,” Sears said, “they need to get 80 to 90% of the black vote. That’s why they are so full of hatred when conservatives like me, or libertarians, don’t think the way they do. . . . We don’t really care.”
“The slaves did not die in the fields to be beholden to the Democrat Party,” Sears added. “They wanted their freedom . . . their families to be reunited . . . and their children to get a good education.”
Virginia’s second-in-command declared she believes Donald Trump won a greater share of nonwhite votes in 2020 than in 2016 because he delivered jobs for minorities.
Former President Donald Trump appealed to Black voters in his campaign speeches, claiming he would fix poverty in ways that Democrats have not since Lyndon Johnson was president.
“You’re living in poverty, your schools are no good, you have no jobs, 58 percent of your youth is unemployed – what the hell do you have to lose?” Trump asked while campaigning for Black votes.
Many political analysts were initially at a loss to explain how the many they continually called bigoted and racist improved his standing with minority voters.
Sears cited the former president’s funding of Historically Black Colleges and Universities. “He forgave $360 million in debt they owed since Katrina days,” she said.
Election data showed Trump gained votes from Black and other ethnic minorities, according to a BBC report. Trump got 19% of Black male votes, a 6% increase over 2016. Five percent more Black women also cast ballot for Trump in 2020. The report noted more Hispanic men (4%), Hispanic women (5%) and Asians/other ethnicities (7%) pulled the Trump lever in 2002 than in 2016. So, Sears seems to have a valid point.
