Astute officers in Shasta County, northern California, found eight abducted children after an alert citizen noticed a woman acting strangely.
A concerned citizen in the small city of Anderson noticed a woman exhibiting “bizarre” behavior, driving a vehicle with Arkansas plates, and called authorities.
Anderson Police Department officers responded to investigate the situation at a convenience store. According to a Facebook post, police arrived at the store at around 12:30 a.m.
When officers arrived, they saw a woman with a “group of six children.” Their report noted, “the woman was displaying bizarre behavior.”
The official report reads:
“APD Officers responded to the location and located the woman and children in the parking lot and found them to be associated with an Arkansas-plated Dodge pickup.
“Officers contacted the woman and identified her as Trista Fullerton, age 36, of Rogers, Arkansas. A records check revealed Trista to have a felony warrant for her arrest for the abduction of eight children.”
The Western Journal reported that officers arrested Fullerton and questioned her regarding the location of the two other children she was accused of abducting.
The report notes that “Officers learned that the children were located at a [northern California] residence … and requested the assistance of the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in locating them.”
The police report shows that Fullerton is the biological mother of all eight children. The children had been placed in foster homes by Arkansas Child Protective Services (CPS) officers.
Following Fullerton’s removal of the children from their foster homes, Arkansas officials issued warrants against Fullerton, prompting her to flee.
The Western Journal reported it was not clear why CPS officials had removed the children from Fullerton’s care.
KHBS Arkansas reported that Fullerton pleaded guilty in domestic battery cases in 2021 and guilty to violating a no-contact order in 2022.
Anderson Police Officers reported that Fullerton had been booked into the Shasta County Jail. KAIT-TV reported that Fullerton’s children were transported back to Arkansas and released into the care of legal guardians.
