A foreign national’s audacious attempt to mail poison to former President Donald Trump in September 2020 has culminated in a nearly 22-year sentence, as announced by the Justice Department on Thursday.
Pascale Cecile Veronique Ferrier, a dual citizen of Canada and France, expanded her malevolent ambitions beyond just the former president, dispatching envelopes filled with threatening letters and homemade ricin to eight Texas law enforcement officers. Investigations by the DOJ revealed that Ferrier prepared this lethal concoction in her Quebec home using castor beans.
After mailing these letters from Canada, she attempted to cross the Canada-U.S. border in a car laden with weapons and ammunition. Border patrol officers, ever vigilant, apprehended her on September 20, 2020.
“I consider myself to be an activist, not a terrorist,” Ferrier said at her sentencing, according to CNN. “Activists are constructive, terrorists are destructive. The only regret I have is that it didn’t work and that I couldn’t stop Trump.”
The Associated Press shed light on Ferrier’s disdain for the orange man, revealing that she labeled him an “Ugly Tyrant Clown” in a letter which provides new meaning to the phrase “Trump derangement syndrome.” She further declared, “If it doesn’t work, I’ll find a better recipe for another poison, or I might use my gun when I’ll be able to come. Enjoy! FREE REBEL SPIRIT.”
Ferrier’s vendetta against law enforcement in the Lone Star State might have roots in her past. She believed Texas officers were behind her 10-week incarceration in the state in 2019, as a press release suggested.
By January 25, 2023, Ferrier had already admitted guilt for violating bioweapons prohibitions in Washington, D.C., and Texas. District Judge Dabney L. Friedrich, ensuring justice was served, sentenced Ferrier to 262 months in prison. This will be followed by a lifetime of supervised release, as detailed by CNN. Once her incarceration ends, Ferrier faces permanent deportation from the U.S., ensuring she remains forever an outsider to American shores.
