Billy Miller, a soap opera star and three-time Daytime Emmy winner, best known for his roles on “The Young and the Restless” and “General Hospital,” passed away on Friday at the age of 43.
His death in Austin, Texas, was reported by soap opera journalist Michael Fairman on Saturday evening.
“No other details have been made available on his death at this time,” Fairman posted. “However, Miller’s management on Saturday informed multiple outlets through a statement that, ‘The actor was struggling with manic depression when he died.’”
Miller was just two days from turning 44.
Fairman also noted that The Belmont, a Los Angeles bar that Miller co-owned, corroborated reports of his death.
Miller was born on Sept. 17, 1979, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, but grew up in Grand Prairie, Texas. As a child, he was in and out of the hospital for a tarsal condition, which affected the cartilage in his ankles. He had previously spoken about the experience with Soaps in Depth.
Miller attended the University of Texas at Austin before working in the mailroom at Industry Entertainment. He was later signed as a model to Wilhelmina.
He began his career in television on the popular soap opera “All My Children,” briefly playing Richie Novak but joined the cast of “The Young and the Restless” in 2008 as the fourth iteration of Billy Abbott. He departed the show in 2014.
During this time, he earned three Daytime Emmys, two for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series and one for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series.
Miller joined the cast of “General Hospital” in 2014 and played Jason Morgan and Drew Cain. He was a series regular until 2019. He also had credits in “Suits,” the show fronted by actress turned royalty Meghan Markle, Showtime’s “Ray Donovan” and Apple TV+’s “Truth Be Told.”
Miller is survived by his mother Patricia, sister Megan, brother-in-law Ronnie, nephew Grayson and niece Charley.
The official account for “Young and Restless” posted a message on X, formerly Twitter, about Miller’s passing, saying, “The daytime community mourns the loss of Billy Miller who graced Y&R with his talent for many years as Billy Abbott. Our deepest sympathies to his family and loved ones.”
Executive Producer of General Hospital Frank Valenti similarly posted a message about Miller, writing, “I am devastated to hear news of the incredibly talented Billy Miller’s passing. On behalf of the entire [General Hospital] family, our hearts go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
