Kari Lake Floated as Next White House Press Secretary Following Katie Zacharia’s Exit

Kari Lake is being floated as a possible replacement for former White House press secretary Katie Zacharia following her abrupt departure from President Donald Trump’s administration after just five days on the job.

The suggestion emerged in a social media post arguing that Lake’s extensive television experience, public speaking abilities and longstanding support for Trump would make her a suitable candidate to lead the White House’s communications operation.

The post described Lake as a potential successor who would bring more than two decades of media experience to one of the administration’s most visible positions.

The commentator also argued that Lake understands how journalists operate and would be willing to confront reporters during contentious White House briefings.

The suggestion follows Zacharia’s departure Friday, October 16, after a turbulent first week that included criticism of her briefing room performance and questions about her professional credentials.

Zacharia had assumed the position October 12, replacing Karoline Leavitt, but was removed just days later.

Her departure has prompted speculation about who Trump might choose to represent his administration before the White House press corps.

Lake, a former television news anchor and Republican political candidate in Arizona, has spent much of her career working in broadcasting and conservative politics.

Before entering politics, she worked for more than two decades in television journalism, including a lengthy tenure as a news anchor in Phoenix.

She subsequently became a prominent Trump supporter and pursued statewide office in Arizona.

Lake unsuccessfully ran for Arizona governor in 2022 and the U.S. Senate in 2024 before joining the Trump administration.

Her broadcasting background has become a central argument among those suggesting she could transition into the White House press secretary position.

The circulating post emphasized her familiarity with television interviews, political messaging and interactions with journalists.

It also highlighted Lake’s support for Trump’s political movement, arguing that her approach to media relations would differ substantially from that of her predecessor.

The commentator suggested that Lake would aggressively challenge reporters rather than shy away from difficult exchanges.

Another detail raised in the post was the unusual pattern involving the first names of recent Trump administration press secretaries.

The writer pointed out that Kayleigh McEnany, Karoline Leavitt and Katie Zacharia all have first names beginning with the letter K.

Appointing Kari Lake would continue that coincidence, the post noted.

Lake’s name joins a broader discussion involving potential successors to Zacharia.

Conservative activist Laura Loomer has publicly expressed interest in the position, while other figures have been mentioned in speculation surrounding the vacancy.

Those previously discussed include conservative commentator Scott Jennings, White House deputy press secretary Anna Kelly and former acting U.S. Attorney Alina Habba.

Axios also reported that Trump initially wanted former Fox News host Maria Bartiromo for the position before choosing Zacharia, but Bartiromo indicated that she would not accept the job.

Despite the growing discussion surrounding potential replacements, Trump has indicated that he is in no hurry to make another appointment.

Fox News correspondent Peter Doocy reported Friday that the president said he was in “no rush” to fill the position.

For now, Lake’s potential candidacy remains a suggestion circulating among Trump supporters rather than an officially announced White House consideration.

There has been no confirmation that Lake has been approached about the position or expressed interest in accepting it.

If we are being honest, the best person to be the new White House Press Secretary should be Kari Lake, if Katie Zacharia is departing.

She has over 20 years of experience in the media. She is an excellent speaker, she understands how the fake press operates.
