Pope Francis recently criticized what he termed the “ugly ideology” of gender theory, suggesting it poses a significant threat to humanity.
His remarks were made during the “Man-Woman: Image of God. Towards an Anthropology of Vocations” conference held at the Vatican, according to Vatican News.
“I have asked that studies be carried out into this ugly ideology of our times, which cancels out the differences and makes everything the same,” Pope Francis said, as reported by Reuters. “Canceling out the differences means canceling out humanity.”
In addition to his critique of gender ideology, Pope Francis recommended the attendees read “Lord of the World,” a dystopian novel penned in 1907 by Catholic priest Robert Hugh Benson. The novel depicts a dystopian society devoid of religion, overtaken by technological advancements.
“Read it if you have time, because it speaks of these problems of today,” the Pope advised.
The Pope’s suggestion to explore “Lord of the World” offers a stark insight into his perspective on contemporary global challenges, extending beyond the confines of gender ideology. The novel’s portrayal of a world dominated by mass communication, rapid transportation, secular humanism and weapons of mass destruction mirrors concerns relevant to today’s society, particularly the potential for such advancements to contribute to the end of Christianity and, ultimately, the world itself.
