First Lady Jill Biden and President-elect Donald Trump shared a lighthearted exchange during December’s Notre Dame Cathedral reopening ceremony in Paris, offering a rare glimpse of bipartisan cordiality amid America’s polarized political landscape.
The unexpected interaction occurred when French First Lady Brigitte Macron momentarily vacated her seat between Biden and Trump during the historic ceremony.
Security cameras captured the two engaging in what appeared to be an amicable conversation, which Jill later detailed in an interview.
According to the first lady, Trump initiated the exchange by referencing his recent White House meeting with President Joe Biden following his victory over Vice President Kamala Harris in the 2024 election.
“I had a good meeting with your husband in the Oval Office,” Trump remarked, according to a report from the New York Post.
Jill Biden then quipped, “Yes, because you’re both talkers.”
The interaction quickly became a talking point in political circles, particularly given the stark contrast to the controversial 2020 presidential transition.
When pressed by Post reporter Kara Voght about engaging with Trump, who had previously declined to invite Joe Biden to the White House following the 2020 election, Jill emphasized the importance of maintaining institutional traditions.
“Joe and I respect our institutions, our traditions,” she stated.
“And it’s very important to me that they continue and we — what would be the point of nastiness?”
Trump, ever the entrepreneur, swiftly transformed the moment into a business opportunity, featuring their interaction in an advertisement for his new line of fragrances.
The luxury scents, carrying a price tag of $199, were promoted with the attention-grabbing tagline “A fragrance your enemies can’t resist,” as previously reported by Resist the Mainstream.
The Notre Dame reopening ceremony marked a triumphant moment for French heritage, coming nearly five years after the devastating April 15, 2019 fire that threatened to destroy one of Christianity’s most iconic landmarks.
The blaze, which captured global attention, consumed the cathedral’s historic spire and most of its roof.
Through the heroic efforts of firefighters, the main structure, including the bell towers and irreplaceable windows, was preserved for future generations.
The Post reported that French President Emmanuel Macron led the emotional ceremony, his voice resonating through the restored cathedral as he addressed the distinguished gathering.
“I stand before you to express the gratitude of the French nation, our gratitude to all those who saved, helped and rebuilt the cathedral,” Macron declared.
He later added, “Tonight we can together share joy and pride. Long live Notre-Dame de Paris, long live the Republic and long live France.”
The spirit of political reconciliation continued at Jimmy Carter’s funeral last week, where Trump was spotted sharing a laugh with former President Barack Obama.
The moment sparked intense speculation among lip readers and political observers eager to decipher their conversation, per Resist the Mainstream.
Trump, maintaining his characteristic social media presence, later posted an AI-generated video on his Truth Social and X accounts, depicting a spoof conversation between himself and Obama.
The video showed the two former presidents discussing Vice President Harris’ unsuccessful presidential campaign, with Trump including a pointed reference to his 2016 presidential opponent Hillary Clinton, who was also present at the funeral.
