Bill Maher and Megyn Kelly engaged in a controversial debate on SiriusXM’s “The Megyn Kelly Show” Wednesday, primarily focusing on the upcoming presidential election. The discussion intensified when the topic of Hunter Biden’s laptop emerged, with Maher referring to Trump as an illegitimate president.
The conversation began with both acknowledging that despite their political differences, they shared common ground on several issues, though conflict soon led to Kelly fact-checking the well-known political comedian.
Tensions rose when Kelly mentioned her intent to vote for Trump and claimed the 2020 presidential election wasn’t stolen but was unfair due to the suppression of Hunter Biden’s laptop story. Maher disagreed, calling it “a stupid non-story.”
“There are polls that show some 10-12% of the electorate says they would have changed their mind had they seen it, had they known about it,” Kelly argued.
“It wasn’t right to suppress it, but nobody gives a f**k about Hunter Biden’s d**k,” Maher responded.
“It wasn’t about Hunter Biden’s man parts,” Kelly shot back. “It was about the scandal of his corruption and his dad’s corruption. I used to think that Hunter Biden was a hot mess and Joe Biden was embarrassed by him but had to deal. Now I really think he was doing Joe Biden’s bidding. Joe Biden is the bad guy who sent his drug-addled son out there to collect money. That’s what the laptop shows.”
“And that’s more important than what I was bringing up about not abiding by election results, not respecting what always made this country great, the peaceful transference of power,” Maher countered sarcastically.
The debate continued with both addressing various topics, including the latest developments in Donald Trump’s hush money trial and the perceived stance of social justice warriors on Hamas. Despite the heated exchanges, both acknowledged the value of their debate.
Maher and Kelly did agree on Biden’s poor showing during a commencement speech that touched on racism.
“But it’s a very different country than it was even 10 years ago and to be telling Black students that you have to be 10-times better to get ahead… that’s not the case… Can we just live in the year we are living in because that doesn’t really reflect it?” Maher stated during the interview.
Kelly referred to Biden’s speech as “disturbing,” stirring up division but also said that the commencement address was more of the same from the president.
“I appreciate you going toe to toe because I think that’s what people have to do,” Maher said. “And sometimes it does get to a point where you get exasperated with each other. But as I say at the end, America is a family. And the definition of a family is understanding that you’re with people who you may not like but it doesn’t come to violence…”
“I would hope when Trump doesn’t relinquish power in this country, and when this country does not resemble the one that we’ve grown up in, I would hope that you would be able to acknowledge that. And if he does relinquish power — or doesn’t — then I will absolutely on my show say, ‘I was wrong and she was right,’” he continued.
Maher has been in the spotlight recently while promoting his new book, “What This Comedian Said Will Shock You.”
During an appearance on “The View” Tuesday morning, he also made a controversial joke about the dangers posed by both the far-right and far-left, which left the audience silent, furthering his recent high-profile controversies.
