In a recent White House celebration marking his administration’s judicial appointments, 82-year-old President Joe Biden inadvertently drew attention to a conspicuous bruise on his left hand, fueling fresh discussions about his physical condition.
During Thursday’s State Dining Room ceremony commemorating the confirmation of 235 federal judges, observers noticed a dark purple, coin-sized mark on the president’s hand.
The bruise, which appeared to have been partially concealed with makeup, quickly became the subject of public speculation, particularly on social media platforms like X.
The celebration itself highlighted significant achievements in Biden’s judicial appointments.
“I know they’ll continue to uphold our nation’s founding principles of liberty, justice, equality — and do it for decades to come,” Biden declared during the event.
He emphasized the importance of judicial independence, stating, “These judges will be independent, they’ll be fair, and they’ll be impartial and respect the rule of law.”
This latest health-related discussion follows a Dec. 19 Wall Street Journal report that detailed how White House staff managed what they described as a “diminished” president throughout his term.
The report indicated that aides frequently needed to repeat basic instructions to Biden, including guidance on stage exits during public appearances.
The hand bruise observation coincides with additional concerns raised during Biden’s Wednesday evening address at Camp David, where he spoke about the ISIS-inspired attack in New Orleans that claimed at least 14 lives on Bourbon Street during New Year’s celebrations.
Several viewers took to social media platform X to comment on what they perceived as changes in the President’s appearance, particularly noting concerns about his lip and jaw area.
Daily Mail reported that social media users actively discussed potential explanations for the hand bruise, with some suggesting it could be related to medical procedures.
“Veins in the back of the hand are the easiest to find,” noted one online commenter, implying possible intravenous treatment.
Another viewer noted that “Biden looked awful,” adding, “He looked like he may have fallen from his lower lip looking swollen and bruised.”
A third, tagging Fox News, wrote: “When President Biden came on and gave an update today, what’s wrong with the left side of his jaw and lip?”
“Did he have dental work, fall, or did he have a small stroke? How about finding out? Something is not right.”
A fourth, tagging the White House, said: “Biden looked like he had fallen and couldn’t get up prior to his address.”
“Look at his lip…. he also has a scar above his lip on the left side of his face. I couldn’t be the only one to notice this!”
These observations come at a time of increased scrutiny of the president’s physical condition, as he maintains an active schedule of public appearances and policy initiatives.
The White House ceremony showcasing his judicial appointments represented a significant milestone in his administration’s efforts to shape the federal judiciary.
