After weeks of silence, former President Donald Trump commented briefly on the Bud Light controversy, writing on his Truth Social platform that Anheuser-Busch has learned an expensive lesson about fusing woke ideology with business practices.
“Money does talk,” Trump wrote, “Anheuser-Busch now understands that.”
Trump’s post also recommends the book “The Great Patriot BUY-cott Book” by Wayne Allyn Root.
The book encourages “great conservative companies” to “invest in” and strategically work to “defund leftist woke companies.”
“It’s time to beat the Radical Left at their own game,” Trump also wrote.
On April 14, Donald Trump Jr. noted on Rumble that Anheuser-Busch had financially supported Republican initiatives and candidates and that Americans should boycott with caution. He wrote:
“We looked into the political giving and lobbying history of Anheuser-Busch. And guess what? They actually support Republicans.”
Trump Jr. continued: “Last cycle, their employees and their PAC gave about 60 percent to Republicans and 40 percent to Democrats.”
Trump Jr. added. “That’s literally almost unheard of in corporate America, where it’s really easy to go woke, where they do so constantly, where there’s a consequence to actually being a conservative. So 60/40 to the conservative side is kind of a big deal.”
Anheuser-Busch’s partnership with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney ignited a firestorm with conservatives calling for boycotts and progressives now complaining the beer company has not gone far enough to indicate their support for the LGBTQ+ community.
Reportedly, many gay bars are calling for a boycott of Anheuser-Busch products after CEO Michael Doukeris minimized the significance of Bud Light’s working with Mulvaney, saying it was “not a formal campaign.”
In providing a financial report, Doukeris shared with investors that “disinformation” was spread following Mulvaney’s post, which featured the activist celebrating a partnership with Bud Light by displaying a case of beer with his face on the cans — sent to him by Bud Light.
Doukeris noted the can with Mulvaney’s likeness was not intended for public sale.
A year-over-year comparison for the last 30 days shows Bud Light sales are down 21%. Nielsen IQ reported that sales were down 26% last week over the same period the previous year.
In an effort to woo back consumers, Anheuser-Busch has offered conciliatory comments, fired marketing staff and given distributors and potential customers free beer. Some suggest, however, that sales will continue to fall without Anheuser-Busch apologizing and repudiating woke initiatives.
