President-elect Donald Trump has appointed tech titan Elon Musk and former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy to spearhead a massive government restructuring project through the newly established Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
The ambitious initiative, dubbed “the Manhattan Project of our time” by Trump, aims to slash $6.5 trillion in government spending by targeting bureaucratic waste and excessive regulations.
The project is set for completion by July 4, 2026, coinciding with America’s 250th anniversary.
“This will send shockwaves through the system, and anyone involved in Government waste, which is a lot of people!” Musk declared in a statement following the announcement.
In a subsequent post on X, Musk assured his followers that every one of his department’s actions will be “posted online for maximum transparency,” adding that anyone who believes “something important” is being cut should simply “let us know.”
“We will also have a leaderboard for most insanely dumb spending of your tax dollars, Musk added.
“This will be both extremely tragic and extremely entertaining,” he continued, accompanied by the much expected slew of memes.
The appointment marks a significant alliance between Trump and two of tech’s most prominent figures.
Musk, whose net worth stands at approximately $304 billion, has emerged as a key Trump ally following an assassination attempt on the Republican candidate in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The Tesla and SpaceX CEO demonstrated his commitment by offering $1 million daily rewards to registered voters in battleground states during the campaign.
Ramaswamy, a Yale Law graduate and founder of Roivant Sciences Ltd., brings his entrepreneurial expertise to the role.
Despite running against Trump in the 2024 Republican primary, Ramaswamy maintained a supportive stance toward the former president, ultimately finishing fourth in the Iowa caucuses before endorsing Trump.
“We will not go gently,” Ramaswamy said in a message to Musk on X following the news.
The announcement comes amid a series of high-profile appointments to Trump’s inner circle.
Susie Wiles, nicknamed the “Ice Baby,” has been named as the first female White House chief of staff.
Tom Homan will serve as Border Czar, while Marco Rubio, once dubbed “Little Marco” by Trump, has secured the prestigious Secretary of State position.
Trump emphasized that DOGE will operate outside traditional government constraints, partnering with the White House and Office of Management & Budget to implement structural reforms.
“A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence,” Trump stated.
Musk responded to his appointment on X with characteristic flair, posting “The merch will be [fire].”
