A political action committee connected to Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Texas has released a roster of 14 candidates it supports in the November election. The party’s nominee for U.S. Senate in Texas is not on it.
The group is called Fueling Individual Rights Everywhere, or FIRE PAC. A post on the social media platform X from the account PollTracker2024 drew attention to the list and to the name absent from it.
That name belongs to James Talarico, a Texas state representative. Talarico won the Democratic Senate primary in March, taking 54.5 percent of the vote to Crockett’s 46.2 percent, according to Politico.
Crockett responded to the result with a public statement. Democrats “must remain united,” she said, as Politico reported.
Talarico is not the only statewide Democrat the list leaves out. Gina Hinojosa, the party’s candidate for Texas governor, does not appear on it either.
FIRE PAC has operated on a modest scale. Fox News reported that the committee has raised $144,960 and has concentrated its efforts on local and state-level contests.
The roster soon reached a former member of Congress. Susan Wild, a Democrat who represented Pennsylvania in the House, responded on X, and Fox News reported on her post.
Wild wrote: “F— her. That’s all I can say. And that statement has nothing to do with blind loyalty to Dems,”
She continued in a second post: “It has everything to do with her being a narcissistic drama queen who has used her platform (such as it is) only to advance herself. Karma will suck,”
Crockett answered her critics on X. Her message read: “Y’all are corny! Keep receipts. I’ll be happy when people either give a damn about FACTS or news media goes back to the news instead of deciding to ride the tabloid lane. NOW FOR THE 1000th time maybe write an article about KEN F*in PAXTON. Y’all sound like corny groupies,”
Her post addressed both the people criticizing her and the news media. It also named Ken Paxton and urged that an article be written about him.
Newsweek approached the episode from a different direction. The outlet examined whether Crockett has endorsed Talarico and what the public record shows on that question.
In its reporting, Newsweek noted that Crockett has raised the absence of statewide Black candidates on the Democratic line. The topic surfaced in an interview she gave to The Dallas Morning News.
In that interview, Crockett said Black voter enthusiasm could be limited because the ticket lacks a Black candidate. Her remarks looked ahead to the November election.
Newsweek quoted her directly from the conversation. “I’ve not heard a bunch of kumbaya,” she told The Dallas Morning News, according to Newsweek. “People don’t seem to be convinced at this point, but there’s a lot of time between now and November.”
The sequence of events spans several news organizations.
Politico covered the March primary and Crockett’s statement afterward. Fox News reported on the PAC’s fundraising and on Wild’s reaction, and Newsweek examined the endorsement question.
By the numbers, the PAC’s list holds 14 names, and the committee has raised $144,960. Neither the Democratic nominee for Senate nor the Democratic nominee for governor appears on it.
Talarico leads the Democratic ticket in Texas as the Senate nominee. Hinojosa carries the party’s banner in the governor’s race. Both names will appear on the November ballot.
