A Bloomberg opinion piece has gone viral after the author suggested that Republicans are terrified of Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz because he is the definition of masculinity.
Titled “Tim Walz’s Masculinity Is Terrifying Republicans,” Bloomberg opinion columnist Francis Wilkinson wrote on Friday that conservatives are attacking Walz because he possesses “traditional” masculine traits and is threatened by it.
“Republicans have scaled back their initial attacks on Harris’ race and gender. Instead, they have targeted the traditional signifiers of Walz’s masculinity,” wrote Wilkinson.
“It’s hardly surprising. Any liberal Democrat whose resume includes football coach, military veteran and sharp-shooting hunter is a challenge to MAGA mythology, which posits that liberalism and feminism threaten traditional masculinity, so you’d better vote Republican before marauding Amazons take your endangered man card away,” he continued.
The Bloomberg author listed the masculine qualities that put conservatives in constant fear. He wrote that Walz enjoys football, loves to hunt, and believes in equality for all. Qualities, he suggests, define what a “real man” is.
Wilkinson also suggested that Walz is comfortable in his masculinity enough to allow himself to “play second fiddle to a Black woman running for president” in contrast to the Republican party which “offers little beyond resentment, rage and a promise to restrict the freedom and democratic power of its opponents.”
Along with praising Walz, Wilkinson took the time to criticize former President Donald Trump and his running mate Sen. JD Vance. He claimed that the senator began “smearing” Walz’s military record due to “resentment,” claiming that he did so without evidence.
“He’s not frightened of women, afraid of Black people or terrified of the future,” Wilkinson concluded.
As the article began to gain attention, conservatives ripped Wilkinson’s opinion, making fun of his theory that Walz’s masculinity terrifies them.
Most conservatives on the social media platform gave examples of how Walz’s actions prove the exact opposite, that he is far from the definition of masculinity.
“Republicans are terrified of Tampon Tim’s masculinity? You have got to be kidding me? This beta-male? I’m not even sure he actually hunts or fishes, except for photo-ops!” One X user wrote.
“Tim Walz masculinity… He’s as feminine as it gets. Who’s afraid of this guys faux masculinity??? INFACT… Since his masculinity has been raised, rumors are circulating that he enjoys a mans company, more then a woman’s,” another user wrote.
The left has been known to be critical of masculinity, often calling it “toxic.” Some X users pointed out the hypocrisy that masculinity is now a good thing after years of slamming men for being men.
“Come on liberals, make up your mind! Now masculinity is a good thing? It’s in again? AWESOME!” An X user wrote.
